 Another Christmas

Slipping away once again is another Christmas day;
Working dayshift before joining into the joyous fray.
My grandson is under the weather, but he lived fully;
As once again sickness has become a great big bully.

A trooper, playing his heart out with his dinosaur toys;
He won't miss out on the celebration by all girls and boys.
The sun sets, his fever climbs, our prayers reach out to him;
Still with his new toys in hand, his joy never fades to dim.

Wishing me a "Melly Crisnas" before I left, I was filled with joy;
All my cynicism fell away for the day, it was more than a new toy.
He had a true happiness that rose above the circumstance;
Embraced by love, he felt peace, it was Christmas, not chance.

When my jaded eyes are opened the simple pleasures of the season;
I never ever have to wonder about the why's of the Christmas reason.
Cuddled in his mom's arms, now asleep, resting so safe and secure;
My hard heart is melted, as I remember the Christmas when I was four.
