Poetic-Verses
The Educated Grandma
Many years ago, life was very different from the life we live today
Men were given a wonderful education
And women were not given any education at all
But there were a group of women who resented this
And they wanted to say their prayers.
They lived their lives around the coal stove.
A large kettle of water was always available on the coal stove.
A hot cup of tea with lemon was always ready to enjoy
And when hot water was needed for medication, it was available.
The large group of women who wanted to pray
Had to decide how to do it.
They decided to find an educated person who prayed aloud
And they would repeat her prayers.
There was a family who disageed with the idea
That women should not be educated
And they educated both the men and women in their family.
The group of women began to search for somebody
Who would say the prayers that they would repeat --
And they heard of Educated Grandma.
Educated Grandma agreed to do this
And they all prayed together every day.
On this special day, as they were praying,
Educated Grandma remembered that she had forgotten
To take her carrots off the stove.
In her loud, clear voice she said,
"My carrots are burning and I must run home."
Everybody repeated after her,
"My carrots are burning -- I must run home,"
And they all ran home, including Educated Grandma.
