Black 'R' Us

2/2/04

For years we've witnessed the deaths of many peers.

From political activists to born revolutionist,
either slain by hidden flames
or souls dismissed from flesh by someone that looks the same
and we still have not learned the rules of their engagement.
From the start they implemented their planned plot.
Took folks in flocks on ships and put ‘em on auction blocks.
Sold parts of families to the highest bidder,
I see it in my dreams, so how do you expect me not to remember,
but that's just the beginning.
Finally removed our chains but replaced them with cells and bars.
Freed us from masters with no place to go,
so we stayed and stuck to what we knew.
No mention of 40 acres plus the mule,
so we tried to educate our young by sending them to segregated schools;
couldn't receive the proper teaching
because the teachers cared less if our seeds learned the lessons.
So we struggled to succeed.
By our own natural abilities a few of us over achieved to become supreme athletes,
intellectuals, actors, and entertainers,
while others remained hustling in the streets to eat.
Under paid labor, then came Martin speaking and preaching love thy neighbor!

Moved crowds with his charismatic speeches,
marched with pride because power is in numbers,
jailed for his deeds, and finally killed for what he “dreamed”.
To quell a giant you must decapitate the leader.
That's what happened to us, but no one seems to remember.
Divide and conquer was the theme of their scheme.
Form slavery to the penitentiary, sentenced to a life of misery.

It's 2009 and I've watched the truth unfold.
In a land founded by criminals,
where people from abroad can come and take advantage of the American dream.
From rages to riches, they've built their bridges,
so the rest can enter their prism,
but us we seem to lack the same vision.
Most other race's dollars go through their communities 4 to 5 times
before it ventures elsewhere, while we are the number one consumers;
however our dollar, once used is never seen in our communities again.
So our neighborhoods don't grow economically, but others move to our hoods,
set up shop, and live good.
Getting rich off our consumption,
but don't spend any of their proceeds from our green,
but love our queens; most might not overstand what I mean,
so here's an example of what I've seen:

a women that could not speak English came to a beauty salon
to get her hair and make up done for her wedding,
she asked for the best beautician to do her bridle parties hair,
when she saw that the person best for the job was Black
she said something to her companion in her language and walked out.
The non English speaking women was a nail tech
and nothing but Black people go to her shop,
the nerve of some people never cease to amaze me
We have to learn to love each other no matter the color of our skin,
true sin…
