Poetry that thinks out loud

A TIRED FIGHT

I feel rather tired, but do not want my bed;
I really don't feel ready to rest my sleepy head.
My body seems it's calling for me to get some rest;
Wanting me to go to bed and wake up at my best.

I really try to fight it as my eyes begin to close;
A fight that's like no other as I battle off this doze.
I'm thinking of a pillow so soft against my face;
A thought that is inviting a really lovely place.

I splash my face with water to help me stay awake;
Then wedge in the matches hoping they won't break.
I think It's way too late now and I am in too deep;
I guess that I will give up and allow myself to sleep.
