Climb the highest mountain, punch the face of god

Medicine Girl

We spread the cedar
Upon the floor and
Feel the life it held.

The long branches
Release the scent
Of forestry, we grab
The bowl, fill it
With water.

Light the sage,
Get lost its breath.
I close my eyes,
A hundred ancestors
Filling up my head.

I bless the water
And sing my song.
I sing for my family,
Both here and gone.

I bless it till
It vibrates before
My hand has touched
Its surface.

I grab the cedar,
Dip the edges in
Water, letting
It mix with heritage
And the smells
Are a cornucopia
Of home.

With the branches
Soaked, I whip them
At the door.
Beads of water
Hit the entrance
And glide down,
Like tears.

When I have finished,
I hang the cedar
Above the door,
So that whoever comes in,
Leaves their bad medicine
Outside, and they
Take it with them
When they leave.
