Her Dark Heart
She seeks refuge in the blanket of night
She walks alone, the moon her only guide
She lives in the cage encased by her sorrow
The heartache of yesterday are the tears of tomorrow
Without blood, she feels the emptiness inside
Without love, she feels her heart begin to die
Darkness has wrapped itself into her mind
It deceives her into thinking she's lost herself this time
The numbness then takes over and she believes the lies
That pain is the only emotion which makes her feel alive
She questions the existence of her humanity at all
and knows no one will be there to catch her when she falls
holding on to what's left of her sanity by a thread
questioning whether she's in fact alive or dead
And though her dark heart is filled with so much pain
a heart that still beats, longs to be loved just the same
