The Sound of a Breaking Heart

She pulls up to his house
a palace like she's never seen
She can't believe her eyes
it's like stepping into a dream

She can't believe she was invited
let alone an invitation from him
Her heart is beating almost as loud
as the music coming from within

Such a lavish party
for him she wants to impress
Spent so much time on herself
now doubting her style of dress

Never one for fancy items
never really the "brand name" type
Suddenly feeling insecure
she keeps hidden from plain sight

She walks around the back
and can't help but notice the pool
Catching a glimpse of her reflection
she feels like such a fool

How is it that he makes her
feel like such a child
Never to believe or trust again
promising herself, these words she vowed

She turns back towards the house
and makes her way to the door
Walking past the full-size window
never expecting what was in store

She sees him holding and kissing another
running his fingers through her hair
But…he told her that he loved her
this pain she simply cannot bear

She runs away from the party
no more music or laughter to be found
Echoing footsteps and a breaking heart
…these are the only sounds
