Having no real Father
I honor those who step forward
In my own case
Grandpa had no children of his own
My dad was a no show alcoholic
We were Grandpa's kids on loan
Mom working just to stay alive
Grandpa was our father influence
The one man my monster dad feared
So in his home we were daily reared
Grandpa was never married
Grandma never single from what I heard
They married late in life
When he found out she had children
And were uncared by her in orphanages
You will find them and take care of them
Grandpa was a tough old shipbuilder
But with children as gentle as a lamb
Someone on this poetry site can understand
My second father influence my step dad
He stepped into protect Mom from an abusive man
In his words, "I always loved your Mom."
My father a giant of a man step father half his size
After his first marriage ended he came to protect Mom
So you see on this father's day I do have
Father's to honor I call it Dad's day
For there are men who fill the void
