Nighttime Fears

I shivered and let out a scream
in the middle of the night,
I heard a strange sound
that gave me an awful fright.

Mom found me close to tears
with my blanket over my head,
but there was no monster
when she looked under my bed

Mom went back to bed
and I layed there all alone,
my thoughts were going wild
and it chilled me to the bone.

I screamed and hollered again
and mom came rather quick,
"A boogey man is in my closet"
I cried, handing her my stick.

Mom gave me a tired look
then opened up the door,
she swung the stick around
and even hit the closet floor.

"The boogey man is gone now
for I scared him far from here."
Mom gave me a reassuring hug
and I calmed from all the fear.

I was soon asleep in safety
after mom turned out the light,
she tucked me in my bed
and whispered me good night.
