Childhood Pains

When I was young
I had a good friend,
at school I'd see him
and at times I'd defend.

He was often picked on
and treated pretty bad,
I felt sorry for him
as the moments were sad.

The days quickly passed
and it was much the same,
until the day came
when I heard his name.

Announced at school
he had been hit by a car,
along a busy roadside
he didn't get very far.

He had passed away
and he never came back,
no longer at school
to face such an attack.

I sat down all alone
and looked up at the sky,
I hated those kids
that would make him cry.

Now that he's gone
they don't seem to care,
it should be their shame
the pains that were there.

I will always remember him
and our friendship will last,
even though his death
has put him in the past.
