Pioneer Days

Harnesses snapped, wheels creaked
as the wagons crossed the plains,
the pioneers pulled their handcarts
and were soaked by thunderous rains.

The trek of the Mormon pioneers
an experience from days of old,
accidents, illness and even death
happened in the bitter cold.

Faith and prayer lead them along
and they sang their hymns of praise,
with trails rough and the rivers wet
they endured the roughest days.

There were moments of great joy
when some cried happy tears,
overwhelmed with challenges
great courage calmed their fears.

They had a good feeling inside
when they reached their land,
the guidance and love of the Lord
helped them with blessed hand.

A pioneer, a wonderful example
of faith and courage that is true,
they kept a journal on their trek
of the experiences they went through.
