 Back to Breath

Sitting in meditation this morning, reaching for stillness;
My mind slowly settles for a moment then races off again.
Swinging relentlessly from thought to thought to thought;
Remembering my goal, but not judging; now back to breath.

Unusual how the mind runs like a rambunctious puppy;
Playfully testing and trying every limit and every border.
Yapping loudly, randomly at everything that passes through;
Remembering my goal, but not judging; now back to breath.

Settling in to reap a harvest of lucid moments of peace;
Gentle hands direct my meditative practice, never forcing.
The soft warm rain of peace and tranquility dampen me;
Remembering my goal, but not judging; now back to breath.

Even sweet good thoughts take me away from presence;
Deceptively, the mind keeps me in past or  future mode.
In presence, the mind rests within the rapture of the moment;
I remembered my goal, did not judge; now back to breath.

Sweet is the presence of this very moment in eternal time;
Securing myself a place to experience this reality from my seat.
Epiphanies pour out from the heavens into my waiting soul.
Creativity is cultivated, gratitude is strong; then back to breath.
