Grandson wanted to know if I played sports
Grade school the Christmas day tournament
Each age teams coming all over the state
Our team won age group three years running
72 teams coming every year. We never lost
But the one I remember was poor versus rich
Rat city--poor kids without uniforms
White Center was inked in on tee shirts
My tennis shoes had a hole in the sides
As I jumped center this boy said, "You don't even
have uniforms. His team had it all warm up jackets
We didn't even have a coach or parents in the stands
I jumped center and banged the ball hard on his head
Three of the boys on our team later played college ball
I was one of the three and could stuff the ball
One of our players later was high jump champion
we fed him the ball and he stuffed it
We never let their team past half court
It was humiliation, yes basketball 72-0.
They had coaches, parents in the stands
Yelling that we were hurting their little babies
We were from rat city with a mission
Sometimes had to fist fight to be chosen
Don played starting guard for the Washington Huskies
Bob led Seattle U to championship as most valuable player
I scored 22 points a game as a freshman at Central
Foot Injuries ended my career a year later
I dropped out of school and played in Mens leagues
One of the players was I jumped center against
Later was one of the original Seattle Supersonics
Not a good thing to tease your opponents for being poor
We were playing for the Championship tee-shirt
