scenic bucolic

and iconic
how the wine flowed
and the streets were filled
with people
merrymaking and enjoying
their lives..
eating hot pretzels
and drinking cold ale
the old men talked politics
and remembered when
they were young..
when the Kaiser who fell..
when the whole world
went to hell..
the Fueher gave us shovels
and later guns..
when children ran the streets
air raid sirens buildings burned
the old men remembered..
talking to the young today..
we have it made now
I heard one man say..
so we sipped at our beer
and toasted a new year
as Greta came by and kissed
me sweetly on the cheek..
and my thoughts went back in time
