 Fortitude

Sitting in this chair I've sat in so many times before,
praying there will be a tender knock at my front door.
The only friends I have are the friends that use to be,
because my mental illness has pushed them so far away from me.
Funny how it is when you have an unbalanced mind,
funny how if you had cancer all the friends that you would find.
Is a chemical unbalance a bad thing when it happens naturally?
Drinking causes an imbalance but that's OK you see.
I've done a few things that some would say that I'm insane,
But In comparison to some drunken people I appear quite sane.
Once I was a drinker so don't think I'm picking on them,
I too did things crazily and drank at every whim.
Now I take pills each day for chemicals my brain doesn't make,
and I take a hand full of others the doctor says to take.
If you have an affliction natural or self induced,
there's so many ways that the pain can be reduced.
Therapy and meetings or what ever might work best,
but your own internal strength will conquer any quest.
