Poetic Verses

Aftermath

A natural disaster, is certainly not like man in any instance
Does not have any form of sytematic plan, or show any preference
And therefore does not care about colour, class, creed or stratification
When it  comes to inflict is dose of terror, horror and destruction.

Those of us who had the opportunity to see the damage of Ivan
Had a first had view of what was such as disparaging devastation
It took a very slow movement over, taking its time to pound
Like it was sending a message, to those whose ways needed turning around.

In the aftermath, there was as expected nothing but chaos
As people came and tearfully, surveyed their loss
And through the debris, they forage desparately to salvage
Sifting through, what looks like garbage after Ivan's carnage.

It was such a very pitiful sight to see all around
As the tears fell, and there was water in places not usually found
Some people  were even, more tearful, as they though about repairs
Now sorry that they have let the insurance paymentslapse for many years.

There was a young lady who bought her car the previous day
Ivan came and in his great fury, took it easily away
It was unfortunate, but she was not the only one in that state
Many people lost cars so they suffered a smiliar fate.

A woman came to me, with tears loqking so desperate, and frantic
Holding on to my hand, asking me if I was a mechanic
My reply was lots of us are in a similar debacle
Foget car and focus on the way ahead, and that's survival.

It was something to see when on went around, during that time
There were folks from all walks of life, in that ration's line
Many shaking off that perceived pride, and also social snobery
Not lofty now, but had to understand and drink from the pool of humility.

In some bad there was some good, this occasion was very instrumental
This made people become more aware of what was around, and appreciate what was natural
Some said they liked the singing of the birds, saw the sea and appreciate the moonlight
To them it was also such a delight, to see a star pitched in the night.
