'I Warned You!'

Here I sit, I've got a cold,
I thought it left already,
Aah-choooo! Cough-cough-oh woe is me
I need a sure-fire remedy.

Whoever brought this miserable bug
I'd like to say,"How dare you!"
Yet I'm just one of millions bit
By this bug who says, "I warned you!"

How little we take our health for granted
Until we're stricken low,
Our local drug-store welcomes us
As we sneeze our way through the opened doors.

"Bless you!" says one, "Gesundheit!" another,
"Thank you", says I as I race for the counter,
But the cold hangs on, you sneeze some more
While you cover your mouth as you head out the door.

When will it leave? - I thought it had!
I had even enjoyed a smile,
I actually basked in a bit of sun
That made it all worthwhile.

But clouds are back, with it rain,
It makes one wonder what did we gain?
That bit of sunshine which tempted us,
It actually told us Spring will come.

"But when?" says I, "Oh I cannot wait,
I want it now, open the gate!"
Yet I know it will come and this cold will leave,
But until then, I continue to sneeze.

~ A little lightheartedness - what can it hurt?
I've got a cold, now-a-days who hasn't? This winter
has hung on so very long, at least it feels that
way even though the calendar says Spring will arrive
on March 21st. Let's hope when it does these 'bugs'
will take their leave - one can only hope! No need
to say where my inspiration came for this poem, ha-ha!
To all those who feel as I do at this moment, I wish
you a speedy recovery :)~ R.B.
