 Run in the Woods
Weaving along the wooded trail;
Tall trees seem to encourage me.
Not needing a stop watch today
When I go on a run in the woods.
Bringing out my gentle nature;
Suppressing my will to compete.
Maximizing my capacity for love;
Opening my heart to live in joy.
Forest creatures watch me as I
Become one with their domain.
Presence and peace embrace me
When I go on a run in the woods.
Yesterday was spent seeking a goal;
Tomorrow will take care of herself.
Only the now is the carrier of reality;
Truth lives only within the presence.
My pace is much slower now days;
My youth was spent seeking speed.
Now I seek to commune with nature
When I go on a run in the woods.
Fresh air being sucked into my lungs;
The soft pine needles cushion my feet.
My eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin;
As all my senses absorb life's energy.
Traversing up the switchbacks higher;
Exploring the depths of my beating heart.
No longer worrying, no longer stressed;
When I go on a run in the woods.
