 Someday Soon

The old road is uphill for the rest of the way
It's harder to climb now than ever before
Shadows seem to shorten the length of the day
The mind grows tired and the muscles grow sore...

If tiring, just give me some small sign
If exhausted, I will carry you through
If stumbling, reach out your hand for mine
If falling, I shall reach down for you...

I am sure you remember the fun we once had
Running all the way to the top of the hill
There's no more running but at least I am glad
Through it all you are willing to be with me still...

If hurting, just tell me, I'll make it okay
If melancholy I'll hold you for a while
If lonely, I promise I'll be with you all day
If sad, I'll do my best to help you to smile....

Hand in hand, looking out to the horizon far away
Knowing we will be beyond it someday soon
It wouldn't matter at all if we wanted to stay
We'll be leaving one night by the light of the moon....

We will go where all your pains will go away
Where smiling will be such a natural thing
Where we can run and gambol and play
In Elysian fields where death has no sting.....
