Mom, you know I got in trouble today,
But before you say anything listen
to what I have to say
This was the first day of school,
Everyone knows that's not cool,
And I hate the end of summer,
It's such a bummer,
So I tried sneaking alone,
to the hall and freely roam,
But I got caught without a pass,
And sorry, I had to sass
And what you think my teacher said,
"What were you thinking? In your seat remain,
never leave class without permission again!"
Then later I got caught sleeping away,
And what you think my teacher did say?
"What were you thinking?", she refrained,
"Sit up and there remain!"
Then when a kid pushed me and I pushed back,
he chased me from the school grounds.
And what to you think, my teacher complained,
"What were you thinking?", your being a pain!
Now I am sorry this the first day of school,
I sneaked and that I broke some rules,
But why when I got home at last,
Did you have to ask?
"What were you thinking?" you said,
And you wonder why my face is red!
