Someone has just reminded me
How quaint the old village shop
Vera chatting to Mabel
Will their gossiping never stop?
Did they go in the first place to purchase
From the array on wonky wooden shelves
Or stand there gathering dust
Neighbours quandaries to amuse themselves
Apparently Dora at number 7 has a bunion
That blights her every step
And Fred, that's Marjorie's husband,
Is on the wanted list for being hen-pecked!
Her round the corner has just bought a new carpet
It meanders from the hall, right up the stairs
It's in a colour that won't show the muck up (!!)
Won't need hoovering and no-one cares
Oh yes, a loaf of bread I came in for
And dolly pegs, a dozen will do
And something to stick the sole on me shoe,
Just give me some old fashioned glue
Vera and Mabel have taken root to the spot
Bring a flask and sarnie next time
If there's anything you want to know at all
You will hear it on the gossip grapevine
