"The Captain" at Used Kids;aka Dave Deimer..forgive my spelling of the Capt's. last name,he is more
or less remembered by me as "The Captain". Let's go back in the way back machine kids if you'll please, it's the mid-1990's,Bush Sr. just handed the helm over to the Clinton's,you could still get a value meal at McDonald's for about 3 bucks or so, cigarettes for about 2 bucks a pack, and a new form of anti-establishment music coming out of Seattle called "grunge" was very, very prominent with the Youth culture, what some historians called "Generation X".. This is the stage I'm setting up for you my children,at this point Rock n Roll music had seen and felt many changes,in dress and decorum,The Hairbands of the 1980's gave way to an even more simpler and aggressive form of music called "Grunge"..This music was self-styled and proclaimed self- expression, similar to an abstract art, such as finger painting,or a child's scribble on a piece of notebook paper, beauty was definatly in the eye of the beholder..As long as there was passion, feelings and intensity.. What more do you need? Now that I have you,in place and time.. Here we are in Columbus,Ohio..circa mid-1990's..Hold my hands as we cross the street of High St. near Capital Donuts and McDonald's..walk down a flight of small stairs and into a basement, full of Rock n Roll memoralbila, posters, after posters, display cases, and stacks of vinyl records, priced to sell..This is The Used Kids annex, run by Dave Diemer, aka "The Captain" by his friends..And I count myself lucky to have known "The Captain".. We would sit and talk about music,Eat french fries, smoke cigarettes..I would always try and talk my way into having "The Capt." lower the prices on his punk rock lp's,and he would..We would argue the position of Iggy Pop's records..my favorite being "Raw Power" and "The Captain's" was "Fun House".. I have fond memories of Used Kids and most of all the people I met there.."The Captain" had a way of drawing people together..I'm just a person looking into the looking glass of time..one who sees, what one wants to see..Irrelevant to most, special for just a few..Time softens even the hardest hearts..By Rick Weber..
