''Folly''

Folly and The City That Always Sleeps'' Final act-Exile (2007)

"Folly- The City That Always Sleeps''
 Final Act  - '' Exile''.
 By K. Scott Smith

1).

At five I am awake,

showered, clean.

I quietly crept from the hotel room.

So this is it?

My final farewell,to the city that always sleeps.

Two others sleep,

oblivious,

Goodbye.

all the wrong drugs.

I am off to save  myself

or destroy myself.

I am a desert tonight,

an ocean this morning.

I hold back tears as I walk these dirty streets for the last time-

I long for a place to return to,

a place for my ghost to cling to.-

2).

You could make a map of me as if I were a city.

You could build secret, new, roads.

Someday have scholars, writers, busy architects.

Turned to science.

behold, a humble heretic

living wherever the tide has taken him

All is not well that refuses to end well

I am seven, almost eight days new.

Grey tempted by greens,

browns, blues.

Feeling older than boundaries,

Ideas or gods.

Older than fences.

Truth is cruel

I have done its cruel bidding.

Summer surprising,

last of the frictions,

Seven gods did laugh their awkward laugh

tells a tasteless cosmic joke

-3).

Sits by a large window,

lodging in corrupted inns,

the hottest part of the year,

the most frustrating season,

final test.

4).

And there on a hillside,

Where morning mist winds down the long staircases

He built himself a home

Out of the stones and Earth

That the ridges and hills offered him

Gifts from the trees, Our noble grandmothers

Thank you for your wisdom

and your blessings

and your curses.

And he lived quietly for a while.
