''Folly''
Hearts of Gold-Steal Yourself
1.places,
the names of our stories.
given names and taken names
silly games.
empires rise and fall-
always slow..but inevitable...
a wall of pets
American splendor, pomp.
have I lost my will to power?
My will to write?
2.bought with blood
and time and toil
tend your fields
die in the soil
even a king can only keep his bones
a small piece of earth,
dirt and a stone.
3.lose
win
end
begin
the clues and the evidence
such quiet radiance
to much for a fool to hold onto!
4.I walked the path and never asked
seven years pass before my eyes
looking and longing
drowsy with desire.
is this dream a fiction?
5.a thousand words
a thousand miles
ten thousand ways to say goodbye
or goodnight
I looked at the time-
half past the best of my life.
my better days
my better half.
I remember
I remember...
6.The winter chill has frozen still all the pieces of morning.
The dawn is ripe with silence
red mountain covered in frost
the god of iron watches me descend the long staircase
into the city world of men and of madness
and madness's rhyme.
the cars pass so slow.
going unnoticed
I go deeper still.
7.the stone
wood
bone
the steel
the streets,
will they recall our romance.
whores and drugs
the discipline of an addict.
saw it coming from lifetimes away!
8.the highway is cold
dawn opens itself to the sun.
a sadness hangs over my head and my heart
can be seen for miles above my Apartment.
crushed by the indifference...
9.Don't look back
don't hold it all in
don't look back
-some you lose
-some you win.
10.swelling and soothing.
smiling though your sad
sorrow as a brother
kindness will come as often as it can.
11.The science of love
of bonds and of separation
the science of loss
the gravity of desperation
of reconciliation.
Of confidences long lost then remembered.
12.when I tell you violins do not play
no movie magic moment
or happy ending
-but maybe all endings are well.A way to begin...
13.I was a fool
and youth was still a frenzy
truthfully I threw myself into the fire
I thought that in the end you would save me
but you saved yourself.
I did not realize how much I must have wounded you!
14.made of stone
half dead
ha vent gotten out of bed after February.
Cursed.
Am I a lost cause?
15.Secrets I cannot keep but will undo.
the distance grows
mile after mile
year after year.
16.disassemble what you are.
all hail the dawn-day breaks like a wave.then returns into the twilight.
we are privileged monsters, all.
to have beheld such mystery as this .
18.the flowers stopped growing on the hillside.
Smoke chased the birds away
so many churches
places of "worship".
Sundays and Mondays and never-mind
hoist the symbol atop your houses.
handshakes and empty words.
19.fool myself into speaking lines
that I don't mean
every time.
friends become names
shades and old faces
heroes become fools
I am sick of this!!!
20.September will come
and we will be ready
this town is small
and I feel smaller
the words refused to form
the ship met the sea and the sea met the storm...the ancient sea
crosses you and crosses me.
21.weaving stillness through the empty gestures
I am not well
I crossed the lines so many times
I used my hands to draw a circle 'round myself in the sand.
if yearning had a face
if longing had a name
i would call them by your words
awake
from this dream
more asleep that I seem.
I am not well
persisting in such folly.
...and there I remained with my resolve.
22.given grace
taken place
saving faces
what about your love?
23.ages pass
days to come
after all is said and done
who will write our history
I have a feeling it will be me.
left to my own design
resolved
resign.
admit
decline.
24.left with my resolve
chasing youth
gone astray.
25.Laughter
Bound to silliness
new york is new mecca?
new york is Warsaw
the lies are everywhere.
earth and sky-
they know why!
