All us boys all free on a schooless weekend
Of what can we ever do today we all dream
I know said one of us then with a cheeky smile
The chinamans watermelon crops ripe up stream
So off we go via the river bank ever so carefully
Until we reached the crop near the river bank
Knowing that these things float so very well
Never ever seen a water melon yet that sank
We only took about fifteen all large and ripe
And placed them in the river to float then away
As down stream one of us waiting with a billy cart
And would collect them as they all came his way
However here we were in the river now with them
And buckshot was rippling all around us everywhere
The old chinaman had arrived with his big shot gun
And us diving under to come up we'd hardly dare
Up for a second, breath then under again we'd go
And some of the water melons were blown away
But as the current it was running pretty fastly
We managed to remain un touched and as well with
At least a good dozen large water melons that day
My dad came home and asked where had we been
We told him of course all of us we had been swimming
Well he said ,, I saw the chinaman in town today
He said you boys his water melons had been trimming
Me dad ? would I lie to you ? suffering pole cats not I
Thats when he told us the chinaman was using real shot
And there was every chance for a melon we could die
But later on at very least we had one hell of a feast
And were never to ever try that ever again for sure
As for as much as we all loved the adventure on the day
We decided that the large melons were not worth dying for.
