 light goes out

i used to understand
maybe
i used to lie in wait
perhaps
it's a long way to the line between
sanity and insanity
somewhere along the way i lost my way
the abyss gurgles louder
this large puss bubbles bursts
and we are gone

i used to know your name
it was a long stride
such a long time ago
you in my arms tonight
like a flacid dream
so worn out and reviled
by all but one

and in the dark
i see the verse
reciting; its nocturnal hiss
inviting me to taste the kiss
of venom and rouge
a blacker black
than the void of light

i used to believe in some dysfunctional form of happily ever after
this will take work
