The Darker Side of Poetry

Mr Stare

Sitting drunk and alone at a table in a club
Another drink downed suddenly a thud
I look up and opposite me
An unannounced visitor has invaded my territory

Eyes begin to focus it's a face I recognise
A jealous face from the past which I had failed to pacify
He just stares all static not saying a word
I'm beginning to think this guys absurd

The silent stares continue
Obviously trying to intimidate
All this does is offend me
Making me feel like I should retaliate

Still the rigid man continues with the stare
His pretty poor performance of a hard man glare
Enough's enough I can't take no more
I'm going to spontaneously combust if I don't up my score

I arise from my seat quickly, I move to Mr Stare
A quick quiet word in his ear will make him aware
But all he does is look with glazed hateful eyes
Anger begins to overwhelm me, I feel double my size

One swift manoeuvre my head to his face
Not too hard just a warning shot
For invading my space with disregard and disgrace
The next thing I know shouts occur
I look around, I'm surrounded by his crew

I've been set up for a fall, no chance of escape
Outnumbered I just can't win
But body lets fly with pure adrenaline
Glasses smash, it's all gone Wild West
Next thing I know I could have been slashed

Suddenly I'm grabbed, it's bouncers to the rescue
Thank God for that, I would have been had
Escorted from the premises somehow unscathed
So jump in a taxi and leave with the cheekiest of waves
