One Last Valentine
He presses on without the starch
Her favorite shirt that once took part
Of love scene theirs for the last time
He'd wear this one standing on line
Bouquet of roses still in fridge
The last dozen sales clerk had hid
For him in love alone this day
Seems not so just yesterday
A younger man, a princess born
To be just his on heart still worn
Their years summed up inseparable
As too the day where one hello
Became the word he longed for then
Before it came to end pretend
A love where true became of them
A higher plane, earthly Godsend
An angel his to have and hold
Before time came of story told
Hers of him, wished for to come
His of her of heart he won
A fable thought before they met
An ending theirs with plenty left
Here student became the man
Through her the years where wedding bands
Became promise they placed on fingers
The scent of her on him still lingers
There were many but this one yearns
A need to be in love he learned
Through her where kindness fed
A boy once lost, to her heart led
Lessons learned still held for keeps
Of love the kind that does not sleep
But lives on forward and rewind
A tale of them, of life, their time
Here at last on knees he bows
To pay respects, to show somehow
That though not here, she still is here
Beneath pocket of shirt endeared
Here where valentine never ends
Her with him alone they spend
Lost time he thought would never end
As tears he sheds won't comprehend
Once more my heart I'm here to say
A need to show what slips away
My heart once young gives way this day
To be again with you always
and so it was to be this way
Where rest became of what would play
His final kiss upon the stone
To be again with her alone
