Yours Truly

I'm one of many who fought for you,
I don't know why I'm here.
These sights and sounds are foreign to me
and you are nowhere near.
I cannot help but think of you,
the one I hold so dear.
I'm not even sure what day it is,
the weeks, they are a blur.
Shhh...a sound over to my left,
What is it? I'm not sure.
Strange thoughts are passing through my mind,
I think they call it fear.
Sharp pain ripping through my back,
another, from ear to ear.
The world around me is growing dark
and it's getting really cold here.
They're running now, away from me,
so everything must be clear.
The silence is overwhelming,
I dare not shed a tear.
I'm lost....everything looks the same
and camp is nowhere near.
Let them know I'm coming home,
please tell them not to worry.
I'm sorry, but I have to go now,
I'm the Soldier, Yours Truly.
