 My today's thoughts

CHASING FIREFLIES

 CHASING FIREFLIES

The sun was setting in the west
The day was coming to end - the time of day I love the best

We sat in the swing on the porch
Your arm was around my shoulder

On the lawn our children were chasing fireflies
collecting them in a fruit jar

Their laughter was like an elixir to
my tired body

'Mama look what I found' my daughter her eyes
dancing with delight said

I held her jar to the light
I could not believe what I saw

a tiny being with jeweled wings spread wide was facing me
its face pressed against the glass

My Irish grannie had told me when I was a child there were fairies all about
late in the evening they came out to play

Grannie had said they were fun to watch
flicking star dust everywhere

Laughing and carefree as only they could be
they were little creatures full of light and love

They could dance on the head of a pin
or tickle you with their wings under your chin

We talked for awhile  admiring the treasure with our children
Then my daughter open the top of the jar to allow the fairy to fly away

Over to the rose bush she did fly
rested there and then waved to us goodbye

What a treat it was for us to see
her gossamer wings fluttering in the breeze
