O Syamala, the dark complexioned Divine Mother!
You are the Source of Divine Music and Divine Mind!
You are the unmanifest sound and primordial throb
That originates by the self-volition of Supreme God,
You are His musical Word which created the universe,
And His consciousness that has manifested the world!

O Goddess of Divine Music and Divine Mind,
You're shining like a blue jewel on Your lotus throne!
With the crescent moon on Your beautiful fore head,
Clad in red silken garments, You are playing sweet
Musical notes on the golden lute pressed to Your
Breasts, while making rhythmic beats with Your foot
In the heart of Sun lotus; At the same time You're
Listening to the hymns and psalms sung by a parrot!

Mother! Your three lotus eyes are inebriated due to
Wine. I fancy You made Your Lord as Your divine lute
And kept Him abreast,so that You can play music of love
Continuously on His body of Supreme Consciousness!

O Goddess of Divine Music and Divine Intellect,
You're the destroyer of wicked thoughts moving
Like demons secretely in the mind's forest at night.
You are a fulfiller of all desires of Your devotees.
You are worshiped for attainment of divine powers,
For perfection in fine arts, for Power of speech,
For happiness in family life,and for wealth and pleasures.
Famous Poets like Kalidasa were blessed by Your grace!

O Syamala, favored by You, one becomes a Seer;
One becomes a king, or a knower of the Supreme.
Favored by You one becomes possessed of riches,
And One gains manifold divine wealth. Being such,
O Goddess, May You confer on me the divine bliss,
If not, make me the parrot on your beautiful shoulder,
So that, I can enjoy the sight of Your blissful face!
