Starving Heart
The gathering of the evening
One more day is through.
With it I'll gladly lie down
With all my thoughts of you.
Each one colored with a pastel
Light blue, or pink, or green.
They softens all the nightmares
That plagues my every dream.
With the quietness of a whisper,
You quickly clear my mind.
Take my hand so I'll keep up
You save me every time.
In you youthful vigor
You've shown me a new way
To meet each challenge
To make it through today.
As I'm slowly fading
From this earthly plain.
I know you will be there
If I just call you name.
With eyes that see the beauty
In all that is around.
You point out all that is real
In all the love you've found.
So I'll thank you once again
For all you do for me.
You give me an existence
You help me just to be.
You're painting the surroundings
With a brush that we call life.
You've cooled this fevered brow of mine
You ease my pain and strife.
Now I can face the darkness
Of all my shadowed dreams.
You chase away the nightmares
And quiet all those screams.
Help me to remember
All the things you say.
So I can make it through
When you are away.
You've helped me see a future
I glad you are a part.
With the love I hold near
You feed my starving heart.
