It's so amazing how time moves along, hence there is another leap year
But it is quite noticeable in the interim how those many athletes prepare
As in all that time they performed on those many countries' circuit
This they use as a stepping stone, to being competitively fit
But before that there was the hurdle to clear in the mind
That is was their onus to be able to meet that specific qualifying time
As the requirements to meet that criteria for those event
Unfortunately some may even fail to qualify as they attempt
Later this year the summer as earmarked, a wonderful spectacle will go down
In one of the world's most famous as well as historic towns
Here that privilege will witness some of the world's finest in a contest
To aptly demonstrate in each event which athlete is the world's best
Many of those who are veterans from those previous Olympic meeting
Will know that it took lots of hard work to be on the winning podium happily smiling
Because anytime during the break period, measured in years in lots of four
Some bright new star would be making that challenge to come to the fore
There is no doubt that the spectators will be thrilled by what is on display
As the quality of the events will certainly worth the price they had to pay
Many will not contain their joy as there is that joy of such patriotic passion
As they will be vocal in showing their appreciation , the feat of a winning country man.
They too know that in order to compete and fulfill that dream
That it's their duty to ensure there is that maintenance of record of being clean
So if there is when tested there is the presence of a substance for that performance to enhance
Then there will be consequences to be paid, this will put a damper on their medal chance
So as we in the world expectantly look forward for the games
Those moments of those gladiators will be pictured in the mind's frame
But after all those duel are contested, after all that fierce rivalry
There will be those binds of friendship that will extend internationally.
