The Crown and I

I looked at myself in the mirror
On my head having my golden crown
In hand holding my sword with honor
Being proud of my throne

I heard strange sounds that came
Not from anyone, yet my crown
That I have never heard the same
The tone of neither a woman nor a man

And then I heard a song
Singing: "Of me thou art proud"
Yet how doth it sing without a tongue?
Saying: "Thou art none if I am thrown aside

How dost thou admire thy throne?
Whereas without me thou art a boy
And shalt be poor, lonely and lorn
Yet now thou art having fun and joy

Lots of kings I have earned
Yet they earned me in their mind
From these kingdoms I have learned
Without me they are speechless and blind

I have lived on many heads
Bald or hairy, blond, black and brown
For owning me kingdoms fall and peace ends
Yet, canest thou be proud without a crown?"
