 once upon a time

It seems forever since you called in
It’s really good to see you looking well.
Tell me that you love me.
As you know I shall slip quietly into eternal sleep soon.
I would rather slip quietly alongside you.

It would be great to come home with you.
Alas that cannot be. Tell me again that you love me.
Do you love me as I love you?
That question will be answered when I awaken
Riding the black train of death.
Then all is known and unattainable.
Single tickets only sold on this ride.
No noise, smoke, steam, or screech of wheels.

Only silence until I reach that final destination.
Then, finally all questions will be answered.
Did you love me as truly as I loved you?
The answer at the end of this silent night is
Yes.   I have been loved and will be forever loved.

In memory of Wee Liz.
