In Memory Always
Ish, my love, once more, again
Your memory has called me in.
For never can remembrance stray
Away from you on such a day.
You shared your very soul with me…
Your life, your love, your loyalty.
I saw your patriotic pride…
Your love of country magnified.
Your Army induced attitude…
Your deep respect and gratitude
For those who fought and gave their all
In answer to our country’s call.
A veteran of first degree…
A man who stood for liberty…
Who flew the flag and walked the walk…
Who listened to no tactless talk.
A man who prayed to God above,
In humble stance and sincere love,
For protection from the enemy
For this homeland of the brave and free.
I’ve never missed you more than now…
Yet I am comforted somehow…
For I can almost hear you say,
“Think of me on this Memorial Day.”
I love you, Ish,
