     When I Yawn
Woe is me, for Poe I know
in the early darkness comes
before the first light of day
An insulting, talking black raven
he brings, with other unholy
thing: Gargoyles, ghosts
and winged goblins flew…some,
 I well knew, wearing
black pajamas, all were enemies too
The unholy group sings and dances
while Poe loudly recites the Rime of
the Ancient Mariner “Water, water
everywhere, nor a drop to drink”
He teases and scorns me in every way
with pen and ink.
The stupid black bird never shuts up!
“I know what you’ve done…you killed
people in the jungle with your big, bad army gun!”
The night goes on and on and at my expense,
they’re having so much fun, singing, dancing
and consorting until the break of dawn.
Now they’ve packed up and gone…but, they’ll
return when the last light flickers and I once
                            again yawn.
