Poetry For Everyday People

The Next Day

I'm much more relaxed
unknown, unproven,
idle in the stabbing sphere
of gossip, needed labeling,
by those research short,

inside I know,
in love, and I only
worry about her knowing too,

my friends know me,
but I wonder if they still remember?
remember me, I have not failed them
much,

remembering is tricky,
as a child, your lazer locked,
you remember it as if it was a minute ago,
still smell it, feel it,

in the middle though,
it's good times and drunk moments,
that few ever savor, or truly realize,

three o'clock in the morning,
with a night cap, love, good friends,
sweet music, is nothing to fool with,
and genius to achieve.
