What does it mean to be sisters,
how does one even begin to share?
Putting makeup and powder on our faces,
all the times and ways you'd style my hair
Remember I was your model all throughout beauty school?
Didn't matter what you did to my hair, with you, I was cool
You taught me how to color, draw, & write poetry too
you helped me find my own creativity...through you
Do you remember the black trash bag you put on me?
You cut it and styled it so I looked like Madonna for Halloween
I wore that dress to school for the Halloween Parade
no one would've ever guessed with what it was made
At the library you spent a lot of your teenage time as a volunteer
showing me what it was to be selfless, the message was crystal clear
You were/are my big cool sister who introduced me to Eighties Big Hair
and don't forget the Big Hair Bands and all the clothes you let me wear
They were a reflection of your style and all my friends saw that in you
that's why when they'd come over they'd be wearing your clothes too
Remember pushing moms car in neutral in the middle of the night?
further down the road so she wouldn't hear the engine ignite
That was probably one of the craziest things I think we ever did do
but that fact that you included me meant even more than the fun I had with you
Maybe it wasn't the craziest, but that's all I think we'll both fess up to!
That's the thing about sisters though, they stick together through thick and thin
Funny, just not to long ago I wasn't sure where I was even going to begin
Such a silly thought now in retrospect you're not just a sister to me but my friend
A best is a hard one to find, but I'm thankful we'll be each others till the very end
And so the poem continues for as we grow so does it
you're beautiful sister, and these words you mustn't forget
I thank you for all that you are and all the gifts you give & given me
for the greatest message you do convey is all that sisterly love can be
