THIS IS OUR DAY
Sparklers held in small hands,
tiny faces aglow in the dark,
they don't understand the
cost of freedom yet or
how it came to be…
…so many of us forget.
This nation, a place of escape
from the tyranny of a king,
hard fought liberties we
now take for granted,
came at a high price…
…the very lives of our ancestors.
Lost in the revelries we enjoy,
consumed by everyday lives
we only see a day off,
a day to play and eat,
see some fireworks…
…forgetting those who still protect us.
What a grand place we call home
and how grateful we should be
that so many years ago a few
intelligent, altruistic men
penned a declaration…
…of independence, of pride, of unity!
