 The Promise
He'd soon depart and by bed side
She sat near and teary eyed
Sixty years of them near end
These last few moments with him she'd spend

Holding tight to hands now frail
Weak once strong and somewhat pale
He'd talk with her for the last time
Breathing barely tracing life's line

We had a run both good and bad
But never strayed from what we had
Blissful was my life with you
As promise made we both held to

I loved you then as I do now
Wondering how much and how
You put up with and saw things through
With this old Goat you'd call me too

But now my time has come to say
Goodbye my love I tried always
To be the promise we both made
To wait for you as we part ways
Where good awaits for those who stayed

It won't be long my dearest friend
My wife, my all for things I'll tend
Until you come and join me there
To share again what two hearts bared
