DJ is Five
DJ is five years old today;
A hand full of fingers
Along with the thumb.
Biggest smile on his face;
“Am I faster today, Mommy?
Am I stronger too?”
Enjoying the milestone
To the fullest measure.
Sugar rushing through his veins;
Bouncing off the walls.
Yet, I see a young man
In his eyes today.
A fine young man, full of love.
School on his horizon;
New friendships, new rules;
New places, new faces.
I see a subtle maturing
In his young face;
A strong willed man.
Love is his nature,
Beginning to see gentleness;
The patience, the stillness.
I am proud to be his grandfather;
DJ is five years old today.
