Fruit of the Spirit
In Galatians Five Paul speaks
To a church full of troubles.
They were a body full of
Schisms, divisions, and unrest.
I see that reflection today,
As Paul is still speaking to us.
“Ye have been called into liberty;
Only not use liberty for occasion to the flesh,
but by love serve one another.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word,
Even in this; Thou shalt love
Thy neighbor as thyself.”
Love is the driving force of Christianity;
The powerful engine that pulls
The long train of salvation.
But what is this Godly love?
What is in the soul of the newly born?
What is this fruit of the Spirit?
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit,
And ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
Then after a verse that admonishes
Us to stay the course, though it isn't easy.
“But if ye be led by the Spirit,
Ye are not under the law.”
“The fruit of the Spirit is love,
Joy, peace, patience, gentleness,
Goodness, faith, meekness, balance:
Against such there is no law”…
“If we live in the Spirit,
Let us walk in the Spirit.”
Allow the seed to develop within;
Tend the gardens of the heart.
For what is sown, you shall reap,
Given water, care, and sunlight.
Give from the bounty of your spirit;
That fruit of the Spirit growing in you.
