Welcome to My Poetry Site

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:2-4

James writes that we are to be joyful during our trials. Our joy is not determined by how well we achieve during our trials. Our joy has already been established by Christ’s completed achievement. Our joy comes from placing our expectations in Him. He never lets us down. Never.

Physical exercise helps to build our muscles. The harder the work out, the more opportunity there is for our muscles to grow. In a similar way, our trials are helpers to build our spiritual muscles.

When we workout physically, we can increase the distance we run or the weight we lift. At first we tend to find it difficult, but over time, our muscles and our stamina improve and we find ourselves much more capable of taking on the additional workload.

It is similar with the trials we have. They can provide a tough spiritual challenge to us. Through holding on in faith, the challenge is dealt with and our spiritual muscles and stamina increase in endurance. The stronger our spiritual muscles become, the more able we are to deal with future trials.

The development of perseverance helps us focus on eternal things. Our trials only help to serve our focus. Trials serve us by exposing the things that imprison us. The stronger our perseverance becomes, the more God’s power works through us to weaken the things that imprison us. The continued growth of our spiritual muscles points to the formidable power of God.

We do not seek perseverance only because it helps us deal better with the world around us and makes us feel better about ourselves. We seek perseverance because it better equips us to glorify God irrespective of circumstances and enables us to become more like Him.
