I am the human race I consist of 7 billion people I am a recovering addict of 'me' What do I mean? I am addicted to alcohol I am addicted to drugs I am addicted to pornography I am addicted to sex I have killed I have stolen I have lied I have done many things All around the world I am addicted to many things And none of them satisfy But when I bottom line it What do I see When I, human race, look in the mirror What do you tell me It all boils down to this I am addicted to me My addiction to drink Is my addiction to me My addiction to drugs Is my addiction to me My addictions are my addiction to me I have a hole It is of infinite proportions A black hole I try to fill it It simply gets sucked up and consumed I try to fill it again A temporary feeling of satisfaction And then.... Nothing ... only more hunger I try to feed it More and more ... and more. It only gets worse. My addiction to me. My addiction to feeding me My way. But there is Someone who is infinite Who can fill my huge black hole When I am addicted to Him My hunger ends When I am addicted to Him My addiction diminishes and is weakened My addictions disappear When I am addicted to Him Because addiction is about needs And He supplies them all He is ever satisfying No more fixes No more hits He created me He saved me He satisfies me He loves me No more addiction to me I have found my true source I have found my everything He is the road to recovery for my addiction (He who started a good work in me will finish it) He is the road to the end of my addiction (walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh) He is the road to the fulfilment of my needs (My God shall supply all my needs) He fulfils my need to be loved (God so loved the world that He gave His only Son) He, not me now lives and I am free (It is I, yet not I who lives but Christ who lives in me) He is the Saviour for me, Human Race, to recover from my addiction Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
