As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27: 16-18 Are your friends telling you what you want to hear or what you need to hear? The truth is that people who tell us only what we want to hear are not true friends. They are interested in their own self-preservation and will not tell you about things that concern them about you. If they do, they risk friction and they do not want that. Love is not about avoiding friction. Love is about love. Friends give each other hard messages when they are needed and they do it in Love knowing that a disagreement may occur, but their love for the person goes beyond that. Part of the purpose of friendship is to sharpen each other - to help each other become more effective. If a friend has recently had a disagreement with you because of something you have done, I would suggest that may be you have a true friend. Now - we always need to take all things to God, including our friendships for His guidance and wisdom. Some people gratify themselves by finding fault in others. Some gratify themselves by avoiding conflict with others. But some people tell others hard truths in Love, because of their love of others, to the glory of God. I pray that we receive all the friends God has provided for us so that we can sharpen each other in a world that wants us to be dull. Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
