Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.’
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’
Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.’
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’  Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Acts 2:36-41

I am writing this knowing that by the time I have finished typing I will have done this nowhere near the justice it deserves.

Peter explains to the Jews that they had just been involved in killing Jesus.  Does it get any worse than that?

What is the penalty for this?  What are they to do next?  Repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.

Three thousand repented and were baptised and were added to their number.

What does it say after that?
‘They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching....’

That’s it.  Full stop.

They killed Jesus, the Son of God.  They repented and were baptised.  And – that – was – it.  They became a part of the number.  Then, they helped in adding to the number (v47).

No talk of being cast out.  No talk of having to wallow in their sin (Killing Jesus).

No demand for prison, execution, justice.  None of that.

To me, that is huge!  I mean, that is absolutely huge!

So, that was it!  Their sins were forgiven and they became part of the body of Christ.  Full stop.

We live in the era of the full stop.  The era of grace.  God’s love is so great and Christ’s payment for our sin is so complete that – that’s it.  End of.

Our sins are forgiven.  God loves us.  Those seven words have become trite.  But they are not trite in reality.  They are massive.  In receiving Christ, our sins are forgiven and we are to receive God’s grace and shower it on others.

In this scripture, these people go from being criminals to being part of God’s family.

If we receive Christ, we are not to feel condemned by our sin because Christ has already paid for the sin.

I’ll stop here.  This is huge.  I cannot do this truth justice.  Full stop.
