A Special Christmas Prayer
Lord, it’s with a grateful spirit
I kneel before Your Throne.
I’m so grateful for my country…
For every US flag that’s flown.
But tonight my heart is heavy…
My thoughts drift here and there.
It’s Christmas time…when families
Do usually prepare
To spend this time together…
To gather ‘round the tree…
To open gifts and feast on foods…
Enjoy each other’s company.
But some households hold heartaches
Because daddies aren’t home.
They’re in some foreign country
Functioning ‘neath duty’s dome.
Some mommies aren’t baking
Christmas cookies with their kids,
Because they’re off protecting
What some fellowman forbids.
Yes, it’s right here in America!
Some protest the manger scene…
The FREEDOM to enjoy the birth
Of Jesus seems to mean
A fight to call it Christmas
Yet it’s not JUST a holiday.
And this happens while our soldiers
And our sailors are away
Defending us from enemies
Who threaten how we live.
Lord, we want to call this Christmas…
So please help us to forgive
The ones threating our FREEDOM
To honor God this way.
O, please protect our heritage…
In Jesus’ Name we pray.
