They follow me in life as they do in dreams so surreal
The reality they reveal is life may not be what it seems
Like bloodhounds they lap at my heels ever offering
Some unknown warning some doubt in what is real
Relationships splinter in wake of these feelings
I try to hold on to them I catch them like butterflies
And like butterflies as soon as I catch them they start to die
This journey has been wonderful and terrifying
I have navigated it without map or compass thus far
Very often on my own with only
My shadow to move with me along the path
You asking to share my journey seems unreal to me
To trust you will always choose to walk with me
And there will be two shadows along the path
With laughter and conversation going forward
Makes me fear the doubtful hounds more than ever
All I can ask is your everlasting patience
As I learn to ignore my doubts
