Visions

Sorrow Too Deep For Tears

There, in the midst
of the towering peaks
of the Himalayas,
her body broken
beyond healing,
she died in his arms
as he kissed her
one last time,
the only woman
he would ever love.
He laid her
in a shallow grave
beneath a cairn
of granite stones
on a trail
never to be found again.
With slow, reluctant steps,
he walked away
into the winter storm,
snowflakes like frozen tears,
finding food and shelter
in a Buddhist lamasery.
If only tears
could wash away
sorrow
too deep for tears!
